5.2 Earthquake Rattles Midwest
A rude awakening for residents of the MIDWEST, as an earthquake measuring 5.2 and centered 127 miles east of ST. LOUIS, shook southern ILLINOIS Friday at 4:36a (CT), according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
There were no immediate reports of damage, according to USGS spokeswoman JESSICA SIGALA. People as far north as CHICAGO and as far west as ST. LOUIS reported feeling the quake
The epicenter of the earthquake was about three miles below ground and 41 miles north-northwest of EVANSVILLE, IN.
WSTO Informs, Then Has Fun
SOUTH CENTRAL Top 40 WSTO (HOT 96)/EVANSVILLE PD JASON ADDAMS told ALL ACCESS, "We did have an earthquake. The epicenter is in our listening area in WEST SALEM, IL. It lasted about 45 seconds. Our local news media took calls for an hour with everyone saying the same thing, 'no damage, 45 seconds, my picture fell off the wall.' BOOKER and SARAH have been covering the story since shortly after 5 with the same amount of mockery that we have come to expect from them. As there were no injuries or damage, we can have some fun with it -- offering $52 dollars cash all day when we play 'Shake It' by Metro Station."
Added WSTO morning host BOOKER, "Absolutely felt it. I was in the studio prepping for the show and it shook the whole building. We've been working with our news room to report FEMA Information and earthquake safety tips. Outside of CALIFORNIA, who the hell knows what to do? I have family in ST. LOUIS and KANSAS CITY and they felt it, as well as CHICAGO and NASHVILLE.
We sit near the NEW MADRID fault lne and have been long overdue for a earthquake ... just glad that it was a 5.2."
